My grandmother was native American and Irish. She was ghostly white, barely over five feet with jet black curly hair. My grandfather was African American. Tall and solid with a coffee with cream complexion. My mom is over five feet easy, ghost white complexion and thick dark brown hair. My dad is a dark chocolate Hershey bar on legs. And then there is me, curly dark brown hair with a nutmeg complexion.
This design was representative of my racial make up. It’s a tribute to the Native American, Irish, African American woman that I know myself to be. It’s a tribute to my ghost white grandmother with jet black hair and my coffee with cream larger than life complexion grandfather. It’s a remembrance that life is way more colorful than we sometimes allow it to be. It’s way more complex, more intricate, and delightfully delicate than we sometimes recall.
